Carleton University's Department of Geography and Environmental Studies
invites applications for an entry-level, tenure-track appointment in
Critical Geographies of Global Systems, commencing on 1 July 2013.
The Department is requesting applications from individuals who are able
to teach core and other courses relating to global systems, augment
existing teaching and research strengths in this area within the
Department and more generally at Carleton, and provide research
leadership in one or more of the following realms: political economy and
the environment, global cities and finance, transnational migration, and
issues of global social justice. The successful applicant will be
required to develop an externally funded program of research in one of
the designated areas, including funding to support graduate students.The
ability to develop and deliver multi-media instruction as well as
undergraduate methods courses will be an asset.
Applicants must have recently graduated with a Ph.D., or be in the final
stages of completing their Doctoral degree, in geography or a related
discipline with a focus on global systems, demonstrate their commitment
to excellence in teaching and research, and be committed to developing a
strong program of research and scholarship as evidenced by peer-reviewed

Carleton's Department of Geography and Environmental Studies (DGES)
delivers five undergraduate programs (B.A. in Environmental Studies,
B.A. and B.Sc. in Geography, B.A. and B.Sc. in Geomatics) and three
graduate programs in Geography (M.A., M.Sc. and Ph.D.).It is home to
about 450 undergraduate majors and 80 graduate students, and the
Department is committed to teaching and research that focuses on
theoretical and applied aspects of interdisciplinary scholarship.DGES is
in the midst of a significant period of renewal and is seeking an
individual who is eager and committed to participating in an on-going
renewal process as well as contributing to its Human Geography and
Environmental Studies programs.
